Treatment for diarrhoea in kids
The oral rehydration solution is considered to be the best way to cure diarrhoea before the situation becomes too acute to let the kid visit the hospital. The ORS solution is the mixture of water, salt and sugar and this provides the required energy to the body that has been lost during vomiting and loose motions.
The use of oral solution helps the patient in the following ways:
·         It replaces the fluids that are lost as a result of vomiting and loose motion.
·         It keeps kids hydrated when the situation is serious and could lead to dire consequences if proper hydration is not provided.
When and at what intervals the oral solution should be provided?
·         The oral solution should be provided at regular intervals, to start up with it, the patient should be given 1 teaspoon every 5 minutes. Gradually the proportion should be multiplied.
·         The dosage varies as according to the stage of diarrhoea and also as per the age of the patient.
·         In the situation where the child is vomiting, then the solid food items, milk, etc. should be stopped. But the dosage of ORS should be provided continuously.
·         Once the child is seen to recover the issues and is found to be less vomiting, then with combination of ORS you could provide breast feeding, milk, or other light eatables as per the age of the patient.
